Communal Systems, Shared-Dish-system Shared-Aerial-System
Digital TV signal and or satellite signals can be distributed to multiple dwellings using a number of different systems.

Integrated Reception System or IRS
This is a communal aerial system (shared dish/shared aerial system) which integrates satellite signal and distributes these signals throughout a property such as a block of flats or terrace of houses, using a wiring system that shares the same aerials and satellite dish.

Combining digital TV aerial signals with satellite transmitions it is also possible to include DAB and FM radio, an IRS system will offer the greatest choice and flexibility enabling residents to choose the method to receive their digital reception via satellite or freeview.

Each system is individually designed but all have a similar theme. The signals are combined at a central location and then distributed to each dwelling where an multi socket outlet is installed leaving the dwelling digital ready and the resident free to choose the preferred method of reception.

An IRS would provide analogue TV signal for those not ready to upgrade to digital. Digital TV (Freeview), for those that have a digital ready TV or set top box. Satellite signals, normally but not limited to Sky and BBC freesat. Other satellites can be added if required. DAB radio signals and FM radio signals.

The industry standard for an IRS is a two screened cable system from the central location to each dwelling. This system would allow residents the freedom to use a Sky + or BBC freesat HDR receiver both of which require a twin satellite feed to have full funtionality.

Master Antenna Television or M.A.T.V
These systems allow the distribution of analogue TV and radio signals and digital TV and radio signals. The signal is distributed via a single screened cable and would provide TV FM and DAB radio. Many existing communal systems are still using this type of system and we offer maintenance repairs and upgrades for these existing systems.
An MATV system is worth considering where the residents primary requirement is not satellite channels or where only a limited choice is required to be provided. MATV systems are for example found in Flats, Terraced Housing, Smaller Hotels, Guest Houses, Pubs with accommodation or several TVs, Care Homes, Prisons.

Satellite Master Antenna Television or SMATV
Similar to an MATV system an SMATV system is useful where a controlled selection or group of satellite channels are required to be distributed within a communal system. SMATV systems are usually found in Hotels, Hospitals, Care Homes and Prisons.

Communal System Digital Upgrades
It is sometimes possible to upgrade an existing communal system to provide a selection of digital services. As with new communal systems, we would tailor the upgraded system to meet the requirements. It should be mentioned that as some of these communal systems were installed as long ago as the 1970's it is not always possible to upgrade to digital TV reception. The determining factors being the quality of cabling and distribution network originally used. We offer a diagnostic report and recommendation service for upgrades.
